about

Rural Ghosts has always been a project about change and evolution. The group has been through multiple iterations since its inception in 2012, beginning as a largely-acoustic bedroom recording experiment from Lorem Ipsum Recordings’ founder Erik Neilson (tenor guitar/vocals). Active lines and melodies came with the addition of cellist Devon Colella, and the rhythmic intricacies and energy of drummer Rob Mitchell lent the group a more driving, electric sound.

Rural Ghosts has gradually expanded over time, with Brendan Tompkins replacing Mitchell on drums and the addition of Oliver Waterman’s eclectic bass stylings, resulting in sounds unlike anything currently being heard in indie rock. Haunting lyrical content, driving rhythms and a penchant for melody typify the sound of their latest release “City of Elms,” recorded, mixed and produced entirely by Neilson and Colella.
